Urban Curiosity in English

At the end of 2012 velcom company announced a competition called velcom android masters. The main goal of it was to attract the best Android developers and teams to show their mastery and fulfill the lack of Belarus related applications at Play Store. I decided to participate in it and created an application called Urban Curiosity.

Why.

While talking with a lot of people I noticed, that usually cities are perceived as something grey and boring. Masses of steel and concrete Did you heard such a phrase before? Yes, me too. But as we know near everything has a second side. That is why I wanted to show and highlight the best and beautiful sides of our cities we live in. And the mobile application fits my goal perfectly! Nowadays near everyone has some mobile device in his pocket or bag. So that any citizen can know the city better, learn its history, special places that are not available anywhere else, which makes this city unique!

I decided to start with my hometown Minsk (it's capital of Belarus).
Actually, the application highlighted only the Minsk places. The application is easy extendable so in the future other cities might be added also. The application has a sweet feedback form, feel free to send me information about various interesting places in your cities! ;-)

What.

I tried to make the application very simple to use and with a fresh and beautiful user interface. And I think I did it successfully!

Within the application you can find out more about city history.

Find all kinds of interesting places. View filters helps you to see places that fits some criteria (e.g. historical places, or modern places that weren't visited yet).

About every place detailed information, photos, address are available. Also you can add places to bookmarks (to find them later easier) and locate them at the map.

To help people locate places there is a city map with all the places, filters, etc.

Just tap the place address and application will show where it is on the map!

To make the whole application usage process more attractive I've spiced it with some achievements. For example, for reading the history of the city you will receive such a nice reward:
